Saxony-Anhalt: Integration Commissioner calls for a freeze on deportations to Iran

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's integration officer Susi Möbbeck has called for a freeze on deportations to Iran. "Iranians in Saxony-Anhalt must also be able to rely on protection from persecution and violence in their home country," Möbbeck said on Friday. "Saxony-Anhalt should follow the example of almost all other federal states and immediately stop deportations to Iran." Around 2,200 people from Iran are currently living in Saxony-Anhalt.

The Saxony-Anhalt Refugee Council has already called for a stop to deportations and started a petition. The Ministry of the Interior in Magdeburg, on the other hand, is critical of a general freeze on deportations.
