Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - More than 30 choirs from six countries are organizing a choir festival with international flair in Magdeburg. From October 5th to 9th, 21 events as part of the festival are on the program in the state capital, the Saxony-Anhalt Choir Association announced on Saturday. In addition to the usual concerts, there is also a competition for the first time. The highlight is the "Long Night of the Choirs", there are also relaxed short concerts in the Johanniskirche and a choir party in the Old Theater.

Finally, the work "The Armed Man: A Mass for peace" by the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, which was postponed due to the corona, is to be performed in the opera house. It was said that more than a hundred singers were on stage here. Among others, the New Magdeburg Chamber Choir, the Singakademie Magdeburg, an opera children's choir and members of the Collegium Musicum Berlin.

According to the association, nine choirs from six countries are taking part in the choir competition organized by the organization Interkultur. It was said that they should compete in various categories in the Gesellschaftshaus on October 7th and 8th. A jury with members from all over the world evaluate the performances. The competition will be accompanied by a public interactive workshop.
