Halle (dpa/sa) - Because she put down her newborn in the winter and it then died, the regional court in Halle sentenced a 38-year-old to four years and three months in prison. The convict took the manslaughter verdict relatively calmly on Tuesday.
The court saw it as proven that the woman gave birth to the girl in Halle in December 2021, wrapped it in a T-shirt and then left it at a recycling center. The baby's body was discovered days later by a walker.
The grand chamber assumed that the defendant had had the ability to see things despite her intellectual disability. The presiding judge stated that she had taken death into account. She therefore had no connection to the child and wanted to suppress it.
Prosecutors had asked for five years and six months in prison for manslaughter. The defense asked for a conviction of involuntary manslaughter and a two-year sentence. She has indicated that she intends to appeal the verdict.
