Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The left-wing faction in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt wants to decide on Tuesday whether to set up a dual leadership. The confirmed faction leader Eva von Angern of the German Press Agency. The election of the parliamentary group executive committee is then planned for mid-June.
A state party conference had asked the parliamentary group in March with a decision to form a dual leadership in the parliamentary group. Since the state elections in June 2021, von Angern has been the sole leader of the parliamentary group, her deputies are Thomas Lippmann and Christina Buchheim. Before the election date, von Angern led the parliamentary group as part of a dual leadership with the former trade unionist Lippmann.
In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt last year, the left had to put up with a violent failure with eleven percent. The third largest parliamentary group shrank from 16 to 12 seats. Afterwards, some clear criticism of the work of the parliamentary group came up. Von Angern rejected this and demanded respectful treatment.
In March 2022, the state party wanted to reorganize itself and, with Janina Böttger and Stefan Gebhardt, elected a dual leadership in Saxony-Anhalt for the first time. However, Gebhardt resigned just a week after his narrow election (50.5 percent). In a five-page letter, he sharply criticized the state party and complained about rifts between the parliamentary group and the party. A co-boss is to be elected in the next few months.
