Saxony-Anhalt: Left faction wants to be more present in public

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The left-wing faction has announced that it intends to increase its presence in marketplaces and at demonstrations in Saxony-Anhalt against the background of the energy crisis in autumn. "It will be a hot autumn," said parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern on Tuesday. "We want to be on the road, we want to be approachable."

On Tuesday in Magdeburg, Angern presented a new mobile office with some colleagues from the parliamentary group. For this purpose, a van was converted - it now has a desk, work equipment, refrigerator, stove and sink. On Wednesday, for example, the vehicle is to be used in Weißenfels on the sidelines of a demonstration on the consequences of the energy crisis.

The establishment of the mobile office is also a consequence of the defeats in the state and federal elections last year. "We have to get out now," said von Angern. The parliamentary group must seek direct dialogue with the voters. In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, the left came to 11 percent, in the federal elections to 4.9 percent.

Von Angern renewed her calls for a protective shield for the municipalities because of the increased energy prices and the introduction of an excess profit tax. In addition, the state must help the people directly. "I think politics must be there for the people in Germany. It's about protecting the end consumer, i.e. the small man and the small woman, from the question: Do I fill my fridge or do I turn on the heating?"
