Saxony-Anhalt: Left: State budget 2023 is far too late

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The left in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt has criticized the adoption of the state budget planned for March 2023 as too late. "The governing coalition led by the CDU is not planning to pass the new state budget in the state parliament until March 2023. That is far too late," said Eva von Angern, leader of the left parliamentary group, on Tuesday.

"If the new state budget is not passed by the state parliament until March 2023, all recipients of funds will have to deal with deductions for the first three months of the new year and will not be able to react to the current challenges of inflation and the energy price crisis."

Financial planning security and solid management are therefore "absolutely not possible" for all state institutions, municipalities, associations and clubs, said von Angern. "A serious financial policy looks different."

The chairman of the finance committee, Detlef Gürth (CDU), emphasized: "It is a very short time for so many numbers and so much money". Extensive consultations in committees and parliamentary groups are necessary, with Christmas and winter holidays and parliamentary group retreats in between. Faster serious advice is not possible.

Just a week ago, the state government once again adjusted the draft budget for the coming year to the expectations of tax assessors. The state parliament is to deal with the plans for the first time in the coming week.

Eva von Angern continued to criticize: "In view of the enormous inflation and skyrocketing energy and electricity prices, the requirements that have already been reported for the new state budget are long outdated in March 2023." She emphasized that a separate relief package was needed for the people of Saxony-Anhalt.
