Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The trades in northern Saxony-Anhalt registered a good 1,300 new training contracts last year. That was two percent more than in the previous year, said the Magdeburg Chamber of Crafts on Wednesday. A total of 3,600 contracts existed across all years of apprenticeship. The electrical and metal trades as well as the construction and finishing trades are popular.
"In retrospect, that gives us a positive feeling. However, we have to look to the future, and for this the trades still need motivated young people who are interested in training across all trades," said the President of the Chamber of Trades, Hagen Mauer. Vocational orientation is necessary in all types of schools. Above all, prospective high school graduates should get to know the possibilities of the "technical career ladder".
