Saxony-Anhalt: Martin Luther University in Halle elects new rector

Halle (dpa/sa) - A new rector will be elected at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg on Wednesday (1.30 p.m.). Three candidates are applying for the office: the statistician Claudia Becker, the acting dean of the medical faculty, Michael Gekle, and the acting rector Christian Tietje. The Senate's decision is expected in the afternoon, as a university spokeswoman said. The term of office of the new Rector begins on September 1, 2022 and lasts four years.
