Saxony-Anhalt: More attacks on rescue workers and police in the country

At the turn of the year, attacks on rescue workers and police officers were particularly in focus. What are the figures for Saxony-Anhalt in recent years?

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The number of recorded attacks on firefighters, police officers and rescue workers increased in Saxony-Anhalt last year. A total of 1344 physical or verbal attacks were registered. This emerges from the response of the state government to a small request from the state parliament member Florian Schröder (AfD). 1169 attacks were recorded in 2021, compared to 1137 in 2020.

According to the information, an increase was registered in all three groups. Compared to the previous year, there were 132 more attacks on the police (1200 in total), 16 more on the fire brigade (27) and 27 more on the rescue workers (117). The five most common offenses were resisting law enforcement officials, assault, threats, grievous bodily harm and intentionally simple bodily harm.

With regard to the causes, the Ministry of the Interior refers to study results, according to which violence against the police depends on various factors such as the crime scene, the degree of alcohol and drug consumption of the perpetrators, group dynamic processes and political attitudes. "The state government has no further scientific findings on the causes of violence against fire and rescue workers."
