Saxony-Anhalt: More employees over 65 subject to social security contributions

Halle (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, the number of employees over the age of 65 subject to social security contributions rose to around 9,000 last year. This is the result of figures from the Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia regional office of the Federal Employment Agency. That is around 650 people more than on the reporting date in September 2020. In September 2021, around 23,000 older people were working in low-wage jobs - mini jobs. Here the number rose by about 290 people.

The number of older people in the population has increased in recent years, which means that the number of employees is also increasing, said a spokeswoman for the regional directorate. "The baby boomers are helping this age group in the population to peak in 2023." The gradual increase in the retirement age to 67 has also increased the number of over-65s on the labor market since 2012.
