Halle (dpa/sa) - In the first half of 2022, more motorcyclists were involved in accidents in Saxony-Anhalt than in the same period of the previous year. According to preliminary figures, 256 accidents involving motorcyclists were counted from January to June of the current year, the State Statistical Office said on request in Halle. In the first six months of 2021 there were 197 such accidents.

It was also said that eight bikers died in the crashes in the first six months of last year. According to this information, 97 motorcyclists or their passengers were seriously injured and 131 slightly injured. In the current year from January to June 6 bikers suffered fatal injuries in accidents, the number of seriously injured was given as 105 and that of the slightly injured as 169.

In 2019, the number of fatal motorcycle accidents was even higher, with 10 fatalities in 220 accidents. 100 people were seriously injured, 145 suffered minor injuries

The statisticians pointed out that the course of the corona pandemic and the measures taken to limit the incidence of infection in the years mentioned could have had an impact on the development of traffic volume and the number of accidents.
