Halle (dpa/sa) - In the first half of this year, more people died in traffic accidents on Saxony-Anhalt's roads than in the same period last year. From the beginning of January to the end of June 2022, there were 76 road deaths, the State Statistical Office in Halle announced on Friday. That was 16 people more than in the same period in 2021. In the first six months of 2022, 870 people were also seriously injured in road traffic, 59 more than in the same period of the previous year. The number of slightly injured rose by 476 to 3323 people.
In the road traffic accident statistics, 31,199 accidents were recorded this year by the end of June, the statistics authority further announced. That was 0.1 percent less than in the same period last year. The number of accidents involving personal injury, on the other hand, increased by 12.8 percent to 3,320.
