Saxony-Anhalt: More than 500,000 property tax returns submitted in the state

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - So far, a total of 500,768 property tax returns have been received by the tax offices in Saxony-Anhalt. This corresponds to 49.2 percent of all required declarations, said the Ministry of Finance on request.

From 2025, a new property tax calculation should take effect. To do this, almost 36 million properties in Germany have to be revalued. This is done on the basis of information that all owners must submit.

The tax authorities have been receiving the data since July 1st. Usually it is about the land and living space, the type of building, the year of construction and the so-called standard land value. The owners have to enter the data in the online portal "Elster" or on a special page of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Before the start, experts warned that it could go wrong because it was far too complicated.

The submission deadline originally expired at the end of October. However, the finance ministers of the federal states, in agreement with the federal government, have agreed on a one-off extension of the deadline until January 31, 2023.
