Saxony-Anhalt: Municipal council votes against new commercial area "Star Park II"

Kabelsketal (dpa/sa) - The approximately 200-hectare "Star Park II" commercial area near Halle is not to be built. The municipal council of Kabelsketal (Saalekreis) decided against the project in principle, said Mayor Steffen Kunnig (independent) on Thursday. According to the information, the decision was made on Wednesday with a one-vote majority (9:8). According to the plans, around 3,000 jobs were expected for "Star Park II". In Kabelsketal, there was resistance to the expansion of the "Star Park I" business park with the new "Star Park II". Kabelsketal with around 9000 inhabitants is located between Halle and Leipzig, close to the A14 and Leipzig/Halle Airport.

A citizens' initiative fears additional burdens for people, nature and the environment due to additional traffic and noise. In addition, information on planned jobs was criticized as insufficient. Kunnig explained that there were also concerns about the sealing of surfaces.

According to the mayor, around 180 hectares of the around 390 hectares of existing commercial space in and around Kabelsketal are currently free and therefore not yet fully utilized. The city of Halle and the Saale district had spoken out in favor of expanding the "Star Park I" commercial area. So far, companies and logisticians have been based on the site. The "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" (Halle) initially reported on the decision of the municipal council.
