Saxony-Anhalt: Municipalities collect more dog tax - 11.5 million euros

Halle (dpa/sa) - The cities and municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt took in around 11.5 million euros in dog taxes last year. That was almost 360,000 euros more than in the previous year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday in Halle. Compared to 2019, it was around 680,000 euros or six percent more.

According to the information, Magdeburg had the highest dog tax revenue among the municipalities nationwide in 2021 with a good 1.2 million euros. There they even increased by ten percent compared to 2019. The background is that during the corona pandemic, more people decided to have a pet. The amount of the dog tax is usually determined by the municipality.
