Saxony-Anhalt: New exhibition in Köthen Castle invites you to travel through time

Köthen (dpa/sa) - In the coming months, visitors will take the museums in Köthen Castle on a journey through time. After the opening of the exhibition "Köthen today and 100 years ago", the picture show will be presented until May 7, 2023. Old and new photographs will be shown showing the development of the small town in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district. Photos from the archive of the Historical Museum are on display, which, according to the information, depict the period from the beginning of the 20th century to the mid-1930s. Köthen was exposed to many changes at this time, with defeat in the war, the Weimar Republic, the economic crisis and the rise of National Socialism.

The historical photographs would be juxtaposed with large-format, current images that show the developments and changes, such as that of the Köthen Bärplatz. The documentary character allows guests an easy comparison of past and present, it said. Some outstanding exhibits from the city's history would also be on display.

Köthen is best known for Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). The baroque composer and cantor came to Köthen with his family in 1717, where he worked until 1723. The Köthen Bach Festival is held in his honor. In the castle there is a Bach memorial and several museums.
