Saxony-Anhalt: New exhibition in the Winckelmann Museum in Stendal

Stendal (dpa/sa) - The connections of the archaeologist Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768) to Rome are the subject of a new exhibition in the Winckelmann Museum in Stendal. The show "... go and see! Winckelmann's Rome in watercolours, graphics and plastic from five centuries" will open this Saturday. It lasts until October 9th. Most of the works come from the museum's own collection. Winckelmann, one of the best-known archaeologists of his time, first came to Rome in 1755.

According to the museum, the exhibition highlights his stations in the Italian capital and his work in relation to the city. Graphic views of Rome, Tivoli and other places are shown, accompanied by excerpts from Winckelmann's texts. The museum was opened in 1955 on the site of Winckelmann's birthplace.
