Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - According to the German Weather Service (DWD) in Saxony-Anhalt, the year 2022 will say goodbye with the warmest New Year's Eve since weather recording began. The highest temperature was measured on Saturday in Jeßnitz north of Bitterfeld-Wolfen and Bad Lauchstädt with 18.3 degrees each - closely followed by Genthin and Quedlinburg with 18.2 degrees each. The DWD announced this in the evening after an initial evaluation of its measuring stations. In the state capital Magdeburg it was 18.1 degrees. On the Brocken, the display climbed to 8.4 degrees - also a high.

According to the DWD, the previous temperature record on New Year's Eve was 15.5 degrees in Aschersleben-Multiingen - measured a year ago. In 2008, the Brocken had reached its previous high at the turn of the year. At that time the temperature rose to 7.6 degrees.
