Saxony-Anhalt: No expert evaluation of the corona pandemic at state level

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The effect of the measures taken in the corona pandemic should not be evaluated separately at state level in Saxony-Anhalt. That said FDP state chairwoman Lydia Hüskens on request. "The state government - at the request of the FDP - has dealt with the process of evaluating the corona measures. We have agreed that the report of the federal expert commission must be the basis." Originally, the FDP had also considered its own evaluation for the state.

The Federal Commission of Experts recently came to the conclusion that the effects of individual previous protective measures in the Corona crisis could hardly be assessed on their own. Overall, the Board drew a mixed balance. One of the clearest statements was the helpful effect of masks - if they are worn correctly.

Hüskens said it had become clear that not every measure had effectively contributed to combating the pandemic. The state government will discuss the subject again in the course of the amendment to the Infection Protection Act and the necessary derivations for the state. "We reserve the right to appoint a group of experts."

On request, however, the Ministry of Health announced that such a step would not be pursued. "A separate evaluation at state level is not planned," said a spokeswoman for Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD).

In the spring, the FDP pushed for the establishment of a state commission to learn lessons from the corona pandemic. Experts from state administration and science should present the first results in autumn. The demand was part of a leading motion that had been decided at a state party conference in Quedlinburg in April.
