Halle (dpa/sa) - Since reunification, the number of children in Saxony-Anhalt has roughly halved. In 1990 there were still 544,500 children under the age of 15 in Saxony-Anhalt, at the end of 2021 there were only around 272,400, as the State Statistical Office in Halle announced on Monday. Every eighth person in Saxony-Anhalt is younger than 15 years, according to the statistics authority. In 1990 it was still every fifth person.
Between 2011 and 2021, however, the number of children increased slightly. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants. Tuesday (September 20th) is World Children's Day.
