Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The number of children up to six years old who tested positive for the corona virus has dropped significantly in Saxony-Anhalt in recent weeks. While 3,559 of these children were still demonstrably infected in the tenth calendar week at the beginning of March, the value fell continuously in the weeks that followed. In the last week of March, 1834 children in this age group were proven to be infected. In the last week of April there were 463, in the last week at the end of May only 51. This is based on figures from the State Office for Consumer Protection.
The state government had spent several million euros in the past few months to provide daycare centers with rapid corona tests. The regular tests were discontinued at the beginning of May. Since then, the day care centers have only been provided with an event-related test offer.
