Saxony-Anhalt: "Offener Hof": Farmers promote regional products and trust

Stendal (dpa/sa) - With an "open farm day", farmers in Saxony-Anhalt appealed to people to support the businesses by buying regional products. The Corona crisis has shown how important it is to produce locally in order to reliably supply the population with food, said a spokesman for the state farmers' association on Saturday. Around 1,000 people came to the central opening of the farm day in Saxony-Anhalt in Stendal.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff and Economics Minister Sven Schulze (both CDU) informed themselves about the work of the agricultural business of a family business during a tour. Saxony-Anhalt's President of Farmers, Olaf Feuerborn, also campaigned for more recognition and appreciation for the work of farmers. The industry is also one of the most important employers, creating secure jobs. He pointed out that companies have to shoulder additional burdens in view of rising energy costs in production.

The aim of the open farm day, which is held nationwide by numerous farming families and farms, is to give consumers the opportunity to find out about the work of local agriculture on site.
