Saxony-Anhalt: Opera "Manru" from Halle awarded

Halle (dpa/sa) - The opera "Manru" from Halle was awarded the Perspective Prize of the German Theater Prize "Der Faust" in Düsseldorf on Saturday evening. This was announced by the State Chancellery on Sunday. "Manru" is about an ethnic conflict which, in Halle's production, takes place in two hostile neighboring villages.

Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Culture Rainer Robra (CDU) congratulated director Katharina Kastening and the Halle Opera. "With her production of Manru, Katharina Kastening has succeeded in showing that opera is not only an entertaining medium, but also transports political content." The Halle Opera does not shy away from taking up this serious piece in difficult times.

According to the information, the German Theater Prize "Der Faust" has been awarded since 2006 as a national theater prize by the German Theater Association, the Cultural Foundation of the Federal States, the German Academy of Performing Arts and the respective federal state in which the award takes place.
