Saxony-Anhalt: Other dangers for bathers at the Hufeisensee identified

Halle (dpa/sa) - After the fatal swimming accident of a 26-year-old, a sonar examination was carried out on the Hufeisensee in Halle. In this way, 17 objects could be found in the shore area up to two meters deep, which could pose risks for bathers, as the city administration announced on Monday. The aim of the analysis was to locate underwater objects. If "needed", further steps should now be taken to reduce the dangers, as Mayor Egbert Geier (SPD) said.

The 26-year-old came across a metal object when jumping into the lake in early summer and died a few days later from her injuries.

According to the city, the Hufeisensee is a former mining and tipping area that was not cleared before the flooding. The entire lake is therefore not permitted as bathing water in the shore area and bathing is prohibited.
