Halle (dpa/sa) - Consumer prices in Saxony-Anhalt continued to rise in February, especially for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Compared to the same month last year, inflation in the state increased by 8.9 percent, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Halle. Compared to the previous month, inflation rose by 0.8 percent in February. The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages even rose by 22.9 percent on average over the year.

Services in restaurants and hotels have become significantly more expensive compared to the previous year. Guests paid 11 percent more for an overnight stay than in February 2022.

Compared to January of this year, however, coffee, tea, cocoa (minus 5.2 percent) and beer (minus 2.6 percent) were cheaper last month. The prices for edible fats and oils have also fallen for the first time in months (minus 10.1 percent).
