Magdeburg / Naumburg (dpa / sa) - The public prosecutor's office in Naumburg is getting an anti-Semitism officer. According to the Ministry of Justice, he should be the central contact person for anti-Semitic crimes, also "to classify and record anti-Jewish aspects of a crime," reported the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" (Saturday). According to Justice Minister Franziska Weidinger, the Office of the Attorney General's anti-Semitism officer should maintain contact with the Jewish community and with the new "Rias" reporting office for anti-Semitic crimes in Saxony-Anhalt. He should also promote further training in law enforcement agencies.
"Anti-Semitism is a threat to our society and the state must fight it consistently and effectively," Weidinger told the newspaper. The filling of the position should be officially announced before Christmas.
