Saxony-Anhalt: Relief package: Court of Auditors warns of high burden

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Shortly before the consultations between the federal and state governments on the financing of crisis measures, Saxony-Anhalt's Court of Auditors President Kay Barthel warned of the burden on the state being too high. A relief package sounds attractive from the concept, said Barthel on Tuesday in Magdeburg. "But if you look at the numbers, it's clear that this is a burden for the countries."

A high three-digit million amount is not easy for Saxony-Anhalt to shoulder, said Barthel. It is "completely absurd to believe that you can somehow sweat it out or finance it from the current budget". Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) recently said that he assumed that additional spending of between 500 and 800 million euros for the relief package could be expected next year.

The consultations between the prime ministers and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Tuesday afternoon will deal, among other things, with the design of the planned gas price brake and the financing of various other relief measures.
