Saxony-Anhalt: Salzlandkreis fire brigade support colleagues in Saxony

Bernburg (dpa/sa) - Several fire brigades from the Salzland district want to help fight forest fires in Saxon Switzerland. The volunteer fire brigades from Felsenleben, Elbenau, Biere, Calbe, Schwarz, Hecklingen, Giersleben, Alsleben, Stassfurt, Könnern, Egeln, Unseburg, Nienburg and Aschersleben have pledged their support, as a spokesman for the district announced on Sunday. They should set off for Saxony on Monday morning with the appropriate technology. Among other things, foldable extinguishing water tanks with a capacity of 36,000 liters are to be used.

The situation in the Saxon Switzerland National Park forest fire area is still not under control. "The situation remains tense," said Thomas Kunz from the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district office on Sunday. Around 600 firefighters and twelve firefighting helicopters are still busy fighting embers deep underground. The operational area still covers an area of around 150 hectares - this corresponds to the size of around 210 soccer fields.
