Saxony-Anhalt: Saxony-Anhalt is the second sunniest region in Germany in autumn

Magdeburg/Offenbach (dpa/sa) - With 415 hours of sunshine, Saxony-Anhalt was the second sunniest region in Germany in the autumn months of September, October and November. An average temperature of 10.7 degrees Celsius was reached, the German weather service (DWD) announced on Wednesday after initial evaluations of its around 2,000 measuring stations. The autumn sun could thus be seen much more often than in the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990, in which the long-term average of 299 hours of sunshine is given.

Overall, autumn 2022 was the third warmest in Germany since nationwide measurements began in 1881. And: "Never since 1881 has the period from January to November in Germany been as warm as in 2022," said DWD spokesman Uwe Kirsche in Offenbach. The average is 11.3 degrees Celsius. The previous high was in 2020 with 11.1 degrees for this period.

On November 19th and 20th there were the coldest days in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the DWD, on November 20, the Oberharz am Brocken station showed the lowest autumn temperature in Germany at minus 11.6 degrees. The DWD gave the amount of precipitation for September to November as 116 liters per square meter, which roughly corresponds to the average of the reference period, which is 120 liters.
