Köthen (dpa/sa) - Since the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, 181 refugees have taken up full-time studies at Saxony-Anhalt's universities. In addition, the Ministry of Science announced on Monday that 222 Ukrainian refugees are currently being prepared for a course of study at the state's preparatory college in Köthen and Halle. In the area of ​​teaching, two refugee guest researchers worked at the University of Halle and three guest and two junior researchers at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.

The Ministry has provided the universities with a good three million euros for the years 2022 and 2023, among other things for scholarships for students and doctoral candidates as well as temporary contracts for visiting scientists. Science Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) expressed great appreciation for the initiatives involved. "In this way we are building a bridge to a successful future for students, prospective students and scientists from Ukraine and also enriching the local university landscape."
