Halle (dpa/sa) - The average labor costs in Saxony-Anhalt are below those of most other federal states. The state-wide average was 29.57 euros per hour in 2020, the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Halle. This is the third lowest value among the 16 federal states. The overall German average was 37.17 euros. Labor costs are highest in Hamburg at EUR 42.85 per hour and lowest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at EUR 29.27 per hour.

However, the labor costs in Saxony-Anhalt continued to approach the national average, as the statisticians further announced. In 2004 the value was still 26.2 percent below the national average, in 2020 it was still 20.4 percent.

99.5 percent of labor costs in 2020 in Saxony-Anhalt were determined by employee remuneration. This consists of the gross earnings of the employee and the social contributions of the employer. In addition, there are costs for vocational training and further education, other expenses and taxes.

Labor costs are sampled at company level nationwide at four-year intervals.
