Saxony-Anhalt: School digital pact: funds released, not spent

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In 2019, the federal and state governments started an extensive funding program for technical expansion with the Digital Pact School - in Saxony-Anhalt only a small part of the funds has flowed out so far. By the end of November this year, the state administration office had received payment applications for 5.7 million euros, as the authority in Halle announced on Wednesday. A total of 121 million euros in federal funding is available. 875 projects for a total of 135 million euros have been approved in the country. The money includes own shares of at least ten percent.

"With the release of the funding, an important step is always taken, but then tablets and other devices have to arrive in the schools," said the President of the State Administration Office, Thomas Pleye. That is now the greater challenge. It is still difficult to buy the required equipment and have it delivered. "Fast Internet and WLAN are of course also necessary. According to the reports from those responsible on site, there are still problems here."

According to the information, around 500 euros are available per student from the digital school pact. The money can be paid out by 2024.
