Saxony-Anhalt: So far 14 monkeypox cases in Saxony-Anhalt known

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The number of monkeypox cases in Saxony-Anhalt remains low. According to the State Office for Consumer Protection, 14 infections had been reported as of Wednesday. In a recently published response from the state government to a small question from Green MP Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz, it is said that the risk to the health of the population is currently assessed as low. Monkeypox is not highly contagious.

Transmission requires close contact with an infectious person, for example through intimate contacts or longer face-to-face contact. "Measured against the population, there are comparatively few cases of monkeypox in this country," it said. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 3,530 monkeypox cases from all 16 federal states had been registered nationwide by Friday. The number of cases reported weekly has been declining since early August.

As of August 24, the answer to the small inquiry had mentioned 13 reported cases, including 11 men. The infected are predominantly ill with typical symptoms of a monkeypox infection such as skin lesions in the form of pimples, blisters, rashes and sores. In some cases, unspecific symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain and swollen lymph nodes were reported.
