Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's state capital wants to dress up again in spring 2023. The traditional spring cleaning, scheduled for several weeks, started on Monday with a major cleaning operation at Olvenstedter Platz. The official campaign period begins on March 17th and ends on April 29th, a spokesman for the city administration said on Monday.
According to the city, the municipal waste management company is providing free containers for waste collection for the campaign. They also offer volunteers brooms on loan. This is to support the cleaning of public areas. According to their own statements, the initiators hope for active help from the citizens of Magdeburg.
"78 clean-up actions with around 2,300 players have already been reported to the municipal waste management company," said the city spokesman. As a small incentive, the volunteers can look forward to a closing event with a raffle on April 29th.
A garbage campaign also took place in Halle on Monday. Garbage bags and tongs were handed out on site, but you should bring your own gloves. The initiators of the "Garbage collection on Monday" campaign call on people to collect garbage in a specified area of the city every first Monday of the month.
