Saxony-Anhalt: Start of the new week hot and thundery: risk of forest fires

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The new week starts very warm to hot in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the thermometer will rise again on Monday to values of up to 36 degrees Celsius. In the afternoon, however, the clouds will increase and showers and thunderstorms are possible in the west of the country, the DWD announced on Saturday. On Tuesday it was cloudy to heavily overcast, the maximum temperatures were 27 degrees, in the Harz Mountains around 24. Wednesday night was ideal for ventilation at 10 to 15 degrees.

Meanwhile, the risk of forest fires in the country remains high. According to the Landeszentrum Wald, the highest level of forest fire risk was five on Saturday in the Börde and in the area around Lutherstadt Wittenberg in Fläming and the Dübener Heide. In other parts of the country, such as in the Altmark district of Salzwedel, level four applies. Regional rain showers would not have changed the great drought and the associated very high risk of forest fires, it said.
