Saxony-Anhalt: State commissions expert opinions on municipal finances

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The Ministry of Finance has launched an expert opinion on the review of municipal finances in Saxony-Anhalt. It is intended to clarify whether the funds from the state are distributed fairly to the districts, cities and municipalities. As the house of Minister Michael Richter (CDU) announced on request, the holder of the chair for finance at the University of Leipzig, Thomas Lenk, was awarded the contract. Lenk is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Stability Council. This joint body of the federal and state governments regularly monitors the budgets.

For 2022 and 2023, the state is making 1.735 billion euros available as part of the financial equalization. The municipal umbrella organizations consider the balancing mass to be too low overall. The Association of Towns and Municipalities recently put the total requirement at at least 1.9 billion euros. Around 150,000 euros could be due for the report, the results should be available at the end of the year.
