Saxony-Anhalt: State government brings record budget to parliament

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The state government of Saxony-Anhalt presented the 2023 state budget to parliament on Friday. Finance Minister Michael Richter (CDU) is planning higher spending than ever before for the next year. The draft envisages spending of around 13.5 billion euros. "These are special, challenging times. They are times of great uncertainty," said Richter. Accordingly, hundreds of millions of euros have been planned to finance relief and help the economy and municipalities.

Around a third of the expenditure is therefore earmarked for staff. Around 4.2 billion euros are planned for this. Around 4 billion euros are to be made available for the municipalities. The budget is not expected to be passed until March, so the country is likely to start the new year with a provisional budget.
