Saxony-Anhalt: State headquarters want to network more closely with the memorial

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The networking of the state center for political education with the museum and the memorial of the former Nazi death camp Treblinka in Poland is to be further intensified. A delegation headed by memorial director Edward Kopówka is expected in Magdeburg from November 14 to 18, the state headquarters announced on Wednesday.

The talks will deal, among other things, with joint educational and publication projects. They are intended to help groups from Saxony-Anhalt to work even better at the site of the memorial, which has existed since 1964. The visit also includes getting to know Saxony-Anhalt and its history better. The program includes the Isenschnibbe field barn memorial near Gardelegen and the State Museum in Halle.

According to the state headquarters, the Treblinka extermination camp existed from 1942 to 1943. It was the largest Nazi extermination camp of "Operation Reinhardt" - around 800,000 Jews, Sinti and Roma died there. Treblinka is located in the Masovian Voivodeship in central Poland, a partner region of Saxony-Anhalt.
