Saxony-Anhalt: State parliament appoints commission to reform parliamentary law

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The council of elders of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt agreed on Thursday to set up a commission to reform parliamentary law. This was confirmed by the President of the State Parliament, Gunnar Schellenberger, of the German Press Agency on request. "The commission has the task of examining the parliamentary law of the state of Saxony-Anhalt for current reasons such as the Covid 19 pandemic and to submit proposals for changes to the Council of Elders," said the CDU politician.

The Parliamentary Reform Commission will start its work on September 6, 2022. In addition to the President of the Landtag, the Commission also includes the Parliamentary Managers of the parliamentary groups. According to SPD parliamentary group leader Katja Pähle, the committee could, for example, discuss whether an allowance for committee chairmen will be adjusted. People with this function currently receive an additional expense allowance of 350 euros.
