Saxony-Anhalt: State sets up preparation staff for crisis management

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The state government of Saxony-Anhalt has set up a preparatory staff to deal with crisis situations. Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang provided information on this on Tuesday in Magdeburg. "Preparation is the be-all and end-all," said the CDU politician. The individual ministries are to work together with the state administration office to develop a situational picture for the protection of critical infrastructure and to pool existing knowledge.

The preparatory staff should take into account different scenarios such as prolonged power outages or disruptions to critical infrastructure caused by cyber attacks. The CDU politician said that widespread power outages cannot be ruled out in the future. In the event of a crisis, it is important that processes are well established and that everyone involved knows what to do. According to Zieschang, there were also talks with the districts and independent cities.

The Ministry of the Interior should act as the coordination point for critical infrastructures, the individual departments retain their technical responsibility. In addition to the state, critical infrastructure includes, for example, power grid operators, energy suppliers, water treatment plants and hospitals.

Zieschang said citizens could also take precautions for crisis situations. Personal precautions range from the purchase of battery-powered radios to stocking up on water and food and refreshing first-aid skills.
