Around 14,600 children were born alive last year, the state office said on Wednesday in Halle. Should the estimate of live births be confirmed by the end of the year, the number of births would have reached a low similar to that of the years after the fall of the Wall.

At that time, around 1993, according to the information, a total of 14,610 children were born alive. In 1994 there were 14,280 children, in 1995 a total of 14,568. The value estimated for 2022 remains below that of 2021. At that time, a total of 16,024 children were born in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the information, 10,918 children were born in the first three quarters of 2022. According to the office, the final number of births in 2022 will not be known until May of this year.
