Saxony-Anhalt: State wants to further relieve families with more than one child

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt wants to continue to relieve families with more than one child of childcare contributions in 2023. The state government launched the necessary draft law on Tuesday, the state chancellery in Magdeburg announced. Families with two or more children in daycare and kindergarten only have to pay a fee for the oldest child in care. If a sibling already attends the after-school care center, the contribution is also waived for the oldest child who does not go to school. The measures of the so-called Good Daycare Act are to be continued seamlessly.

Funding for additional specialist counseling staff, funding for additional specialists in day-care centers with special needs, and exemption from tuition fees for teacher, nanny, and social assistant training are also planned.

So far, the measures have been financed from funds from the federal Good Daycare Act, which runs until the end of 2022. It can be expected that the term will be extended to the end of 2024, but the negotiations have not yet been completed. Saxony-Anhalt wants to ensure that the measures continue seamlessly.
