Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, a program to promote truck driver's licenses among firefighters is to be continued. This was announced by SPD domestic politician Rüdiger Erben on Thursday. At the request of the black-red-yellow coalition, an additional 200,000 euros were estimated in the finance committee. This ensures that it will continue at the level of the previous year.
Erben considers the funding to be important in order to ensure the operational readiness of the volunteer fire brigades. More and more emergency vehicles would weigh over 7.5 tons, he said. At the same time, the number of young men who bring their truck driver's license with them from the Bundeswehr is decreasing. "We want to support the communities and at the same time motivate them to ensure in good time that there are enough engineers in the fire brigades who are also allowed to drive large vehicles."
