Halle (dpa/sa) - A 33-year-old went under while swimming in the Saale on Wednesday afternoon and has not yet been found. As the police announced on Thursday, numerous forces, helicopters, divers and sonar boats were used to search for the man, but the search had to be ended unsuccessfully in the late afternoon.
At around 2 p.m., other bathers called the police after the 33-year-old dived into the water without reappearing. An acquaintance of the missing person required medical treatment for shock. A police spokesman said a decision will be made on Thursday morning as to whether the search will continue. Since the Saale is a flowing body of water, it reduces the chances of finding the missing person at the place where he disappeared.
