Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Because of the current heat, construction projects in Saxony-Anhalt could take longer, according to the Construction Industry Association. Many construction sites - especially outdoors - could not be completed on time, explained general manager Giso Töpfer on Wednesday. Changing working hours to the early hours of the morning, longer breaks, refreshing drinks or shading the construction sites would not help much.
"The employees of our company perform at their best, but physically demanding work is not sustainable in this extreme heat," he continued. The performance drops especially in the afternoon hours. Added to this is the already thin staffing level due to the holiday season. Road builders, carpenters, roofers and bricklayers are particularly affected.
