Saxony-Anhalt: the Glasebach mine museum is open again after repairs

Straßberg (dpa/sa) - The Glasebach mine museum, known for the old mining tradition in the Lower Harz, has reopened to visitors after eight weeks of closure. The reason for the closure was an underground breach that had been eliminated, said Marco Runschke, deputy mine manager, of the German Press Agency. After the collapse, guests can now drive back into the show mine and find out about old mining in the Harz Mountains, such as historical vein ore mining.

The Glasebach mine is located in the Strassberg district of Harzgeröd. According to Runschke, mining in the region dates back to around 1400. It has been a show mine open all year round since June 1995. The museum shows underground mining from the 17th to 19th centuries, and you can also admire facilities from the GDR era on the open-air site.
