Saxony-Anhalt: The left relies on education and social affairs in budget consultations

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - With a view to the deliberations on the 2023 state budget, the left-wing parliamentary group is relying on additional support for the hospitals and the focus on schools and education. The left is applying for emergency aid of 300 million euros for the clinics in the country, said the parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern. There is a huge investment backlog. In addition, the left relies on a master plan to secure school education. It takes 65 million euros for good education in the country.

This should include a program for school social work with 400 jobs, as well as expanding the use of educational staff by 400 jobs. Practical training should be introduced and primary school teachers should be better paid. In addition, more teachers should be trained at the University of Magdeburg. The left is in opposition in Saxony-Anhalt.

The black-red-yellow state government introduced its budget draft to the state parliament in November. It envisages spending of around 13.5 billion euros. The budget is expected to be passed in the state parliament in March. The country, which has accumulated around 23.4 billion euros in debt, is therefore starting the new year with a provisional budget.

"Expenditure on social affairs, school and education are investments for social peace, which is more endangered than ever in the current time of growing poverty," said Left Party leader von Angern. Anyone who wants to promote positive development in the country in the long term should not hold on to the black zero.

In order not to pass on the additional costs of the crisis to future generations, those who have won the crisis should be asked to pay. "Saxony-Anhalt's government must work in the Bundesrat to ensure that excess profits from corporations and large private fortunes are taxed more heavily. This is the only way to quickly compensate for the costs of the crisis."
