Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Two weeks after the start of the new school year, the number of Ukrainian schoolchildren in Saxony-Anhalt has increased again. 5,301 boys and girls from Ukraine are currently being taught at general and vocational schools - that is around 2.5 percent of all students in the country, as the Ministry of Education announced to the German Press Agency on Monday.
As of last Thursday, a total of 27,751 war refugees from the Ukraine have been taken in directly in the administrative districts and urban districts in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the Interior Ministry, at least 6,880 are school-age children.
As the Ministry of Education further announced, there are now arrival classes at 102 school locations. There are currently 171 Ukrainian teachers working in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, there are 54 teachers for German as a target language who are supposed to teach the children and young people the German language.
