Saxony-Anhalt: the police are examining the controversial text of the AfD district association

Wittenberg (dpa/sa) - After the publication of an article on the website of the AfD district association Wittenberg, the police want to examine possible criminal consequences. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the Dessau-Roßlau Police Inspectorate on Friday on request. "The facts are known to us and are currently being examined," he said.

The text was about resistance fighters at the time of National Socialism, including Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. On July 20, 1944, he tried to kill Adolf Hitler. The assassination is considered a significant attempt at a coup by the military at this time. In the article on the AfD district association's website, the question was asked: "When will there actually be a July 20th 2.0 in the troops?" Currently, "the destruction of Germany is being carried out by its own citizens, who gave the order to the green eco-socialists through blindness in the elections". The "Magdeburger Volksstimme" (Friday) reported about this first.

Several state politicians from Saxony-Anhalt criticized the text. This was initially removed from the website on Thursday, but a modified version is now online. The passage with the "troop" - the word is considered a synonym for a military unit - is no longer included. A note below the text states that "some wording has been adjusted".

The Wittenberg AfD district chairman and member of the state parliament Matthias Lieschke said on request that the article was "probably written by an acquaintance from the Wittenberg district". He did not want to name the author. The board has initiated a revision so that the changed text corresponds to the "quality criteria" of the district association. The AfD parliamentary group recently announced that it intended to propose Lieschke for the office of vice president in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. The AfD is monitored by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
