Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The state police are increasingly focusing on the road safety of trucks and buses. As of Monday, vehicles in Saxony-Anhalt will be checked as part of a cross-state campaign, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday. It is about commercial goods and passenger transport. Regular checks and preventive actions are important. "We are not letting up here, in the interest of the safety of all road users," said Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU).
In purely mathematical terms, according to the ministry, an accident occurs every eight minutes on Saxony-Anhalt's roads, 15 percent of which involve a truck. In 2021, 10,000 traffic accidents involving trucks were registered. 35 people died, 13 of them were in a truck themselves.
